In my work as an artist, I've come to see that making art and making excuses are pretty much the same thing.  They are for me, anyway.

I find myself making excuses all the time.  I make up almost any excuse I can to put color on a canvas, to put lines on paper, to drag an oil bar across a freshly gessoed board, to develop a form bathed in light, to create something for no other reason than that I'm somehow beckoned to do so.

You see...nothing but excuses.  I like good excuses!
